Depth dependence of climatic controls on soil microbial community activity and composition

چکیده

Abstract Subsoil microbiomes play important roles in soil carbon and nutrient cycling, yet our understanding of the controls on subsoil microbial communities is limited. Here, we investigated direct (mean annual temperature precipitation) indirect (soil chemistry) effects climate microbiome composition extracellular enzyme activity throughout profile across two elevation-bioclimatic gradients central California, USA. We found that changes decreases with depth. Across these sites, influence was relatively lower at Furthermore, certain taxa change relative abundance over large precipitation only specific horizons, highlighting depth dependence climatic composition. Our finding impacts are muted suggests deep may lag their acclimation to new temperatures a changing climate.

Variations in microbial community composition through two soil depth profiles

Soil profiles are often many meters deep, but with the majority of studies in soil microbiology focusing exclusively on the soil surface, we know very little about the nature of the microbial communities inhabiting the deeper soil horizons. We used phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis to examine the vertical distribution of specific microbial groups and to identify the patterns of microbial ...

Controls on soil microbial community stability under climate change

Soil microbial communities are intricately linked to ecosystem functioning because they play important roles in carbon and nitrogen cycling. Still, we know little about how soil microbial communities will be affected by disturbances expected with climate change. This is a significant gap in understanding, as the stability of microbial communities, defined as a community's ability to resist and ...

The influence of soil heavy metals pollution on soil microbial biomass, enzyme activity, and community composition near a copper smelter.

The environmental risk of heavy metal pollution is pronounced in soils adjacent to large industrial complexes. It is important to investigate the functioning of soil microorganisms in ecosystems exposed to long-term contamination by heavy metals. We studied the potential effects of heavy metals on microbial biomass, activity, and community composition in soil near a copper smelter in China. The...

A Review on Impact of E-waste on Soil Microbial Community and Ecosystem Function

The ever increasing pile-up of electronic waste in dumping sites, especially in developing countries such as China, Pakistan, India and several African countries, might have caused a significant alteration in the microbial community of the contaminated sites. This change in the microbial population may have significant impact to the soil ecology function. The major pollutants of electronic wast...
